The town of Carmona hosted a new Annual Assembly of the Cultural Routes of Spain Association on Tuesday. The meeting, held in the emblematic Alcázar de la Puerta de Sevilla, was chaired by Juan Carlos Fernández Calderón, President of Rutas Culturales de España, President of Ruta Vía del Plata and Mayor of Zafra, and was attended by representatives of the various routes that make up this product club, including Ramón Gavira Gordon (Ruta Bética Romana), Sergio Velasco Albalá (Caminos de Pasión) and Fermín Encabo (Rutas de Carlos V), as well as technical staff and managers of all the routes. During the meeting, the budgets and actions planned for the coming year 2025 were approved, including the implementation of the Experiencias Turismo España project, awarded by the Ministry of Industry and Tourism through the State Secretariat for Tourism, with an investment of 200,000 euros. Through this project, the “Crossroads of Roads” initiative will be developed, aimed at strengthening cultural tourism through the creation of a website and an interactive travel planner; the design of innovative tourism experiences, including gamification; the signposting of strategic crossroads between cultural itineraries; and promotion, training and a comprehensive communication plan.

On the other hand, the Assembly also welcomed two new routes to join RCE, Cluny Ibérica and Canal de Castilla, whose integration will enrich the cultural tourism offer of the association, reaffirming its commitment to the diversity and heritage value of Spain.

“Cruces de Caminos” Project: Towards a sustainable cultural tourism

The “Cruces de Caminos” project seeks to revitalise cultural tourism through the creation of connection points between cultural itineraries in 11 selected localities. These crossroads act as a gateway to explore the territory and encourage immersive travel, while promoting sustainable tourism as an alternative to mass tourism.

The main actions include:

  • Trip Planner: Integrated into the web platform, it will facilitate the organisation of personalised itineraries and data analysis to improve the offer.
  • Gamification of cultural itineraries: An innovative strategy to attract young tourists and build family tourism loyalty.
  • Training of local agents: It will provide specialised knowledge to strengthen the social and productive fabric around the routes

Rutas Culturales de España is a non-profit association that brings together six of the country’s most important cultural routes: Caminos de Arte Prehistórico, Ruta Vía de la Plata, Ruta Bética Romana, Camino del Cid, Rutas de Carlos V and Caminos de Pasión. Its work focuses on promoting these routes on the international market in coordination with the Secretary of State for Tourism and Turespaña, offering a unique proposal that spans from prehistoric times to the present day. Its main objective is the promotion and development of sustainable cultural tourism, promoting initiatives that connect history, innovation and sustainability for the benefit of the territories and their communities.
